神戸大学計算社会科学研究センター 特命教授 経済学者。日本、カナダ、アメリカの大学で教え、京都大学名誉教授。2013年より神戸大学特命教授。複雑系経済学の先駆者として国際的に活躍すると共に、ゆとり教育の問題点を指摘し、日本数学会出版賞を受賞した『分数ができない大学生』をはじめ、理数科教育、道徳、子育て、学校教育、家庭教育に関する調査研究を行う。元日本経済学会会長、瑞宝重光章受章、日本学士院会員。
